1. What is a database ?
Ans. A database is a collection of information related to a particular subject, such as maintaining addresses and phone numbers , a list of library books , keeping students’ records , employee information . It helps to organize , retrieve , sort and edit data as per our needs.
2. What is a field name ? What are the rules to enter field names ?
Ans. A field name is the column label in a database . For eg : Roll No. , Name , English , Total etc.
The rules to be followed are :
- Each field name must be placed in a separate cell.
- Field names should be unique.
3. What is Sorting ?
Ans. Sorting means arranging the data of a particular field in ascending or descending order. We can have Simple Sorting or multiple levels of sorting. Sorting can be done on values , cell color , font color.
4. Describe the utility of Filter feature.
Ans. The filter feature allows you to see only those records that you want to see while it hides away the rest of the data temporarily from the view . We can filter the list by using Sort & Filter option in the Editing group on the Home tab (or) using Data -> Filter option.
5. What is a Pivot table ?
Ans. Pivot table is a powerful tool for consolidating , summarizing and presenting data. Pivot table helps us in analyising and rearranging the data of a table in the way we need by selecting the fields and arranging them as rows or columns in relation to the remaining data in the table.
6. What is the difference between Filter and Advanced Filter option ?
Ans. The Filter option is used to filter the data in any one field at a time. The datas are retained in the same cells. But the Advanced filter option helps us to filter the data in more than one field at a time. The filtered data can be copied to a new location also.
