1. What is a Computer Virus? Name its types.

Ans. A Computer Virus is a program or a set of programs that disrupts the normal operation of a computer. It enters the computer without the permission or knowledge of the user and infects and destroys data. The types of viruses are Boot Virus , Program File Virus  and Macro Virus.

2. Write any three possible symptoms of virus in a computer.

Ans. Some possible symptoms are :

  • Decreasing the speed of the computer by decreasing memory.
  • Frequent hanging of the system.
  • Causing strange movements or patterns on the screen.

3. What do you understand by the term spyware ?

Ans. Spyware is a type of malware that is installed on computers and collects information about users without their knowledge. They secretly monitor’s users actions like internet surfing habits , visited web pages , e-mail addresses and passwords etc. and transmits them to the author of spyware program.

4. Explain the term Trojan Horse.

Ans. Trojan Horse are simple programs that pretend to be useful applications while they always do something destructive to the computer like erasing a disk. They can spread only when it is copied to another system.

5. Write any three ways that can help in preventing a virus infection.

Ans. To prevent virus attack , follow the given steps :

  • Install anti-virus programs and renew them periodically.
  • Always scan the pen drives before copying files.
  • Do not install pirated software.

6. Briefly explain anti-virus software. Name the anti-virus software which is being used in your school computers.

Ans. An Anti-virus software is a computer program which is designed to identify , prevent and remove viruses from a computer. They scan the computer periodically and identify any suspicious behavior from any computer program that may be infected with virus.

Examples of Popular Anti-virus softwares are : Norton ,Kaspersky , Quick Heal , MacAfee.

The anti-virus software used in our school is 360 Degree Total Security.
